Turkey
Travel Planner is dedicated
to the Turkish people,
who have shown me such wonderful hospitality and friendship over
the last four decades.
I went to Turkey as a Peace
Corps Volunteer in 1967
to give English lessons to the Turks,
and they ended up giving me far more
in return: a warm welcome, friendship,
wisdom, and a lifetime career as
a travel writer.
If I presume to guide travelers around
Turkey, it is because I "grew
up"
with Turkish tourism, starting in 1967
when Turkish tourism was small and
unimportant, and traveling to every
part of the country.
Over the past 40 years, the beauty
of Turkey and the friendliness
of its people have been
discovered by the world, and Turkey
is now among the world's top travel
destinations.
This high position is richly
deserved, and I am proud
to have had some small part in helping
the Turkish people to achieve it.
So thanks again to my many
Turkish friends. I hope
you find Turkey
