I've always enjoyed good
food in Ürgüp,
at least during the warm months, but
it was always pretty simple: the standard,
reliable, delicious, inexpensive cafeteria
meals and grills of the workingman's
table such as we luckily find
in nearly every Turkish town of any
size.
During the cold months my memories
of long-ago meals are best forgotten.
And as for the more delicate cuisine
and manners of the city, these were
nowhere to be found.
Not any more!
Now Ürgüp has
a number of good restaurants, and
one that is reliably excellent year
round:
Sömine
Restaurant
The name means "fireplace," but there's
also air conditioning for summer,
open-air terrace dining for pleasant
evenings, excellent food
and service,
and moderate prices. More...
Ziggy's Shoppe & Cafe
The perfect place for a light meal,
snack, drink and long conversation.
On one of four open-air terraces
in fair weather, by a cozy fire on
chilly evenings. Bonus: an artist's
boutique. More...
