Istanbul has several useful tram lines, most modern, one old-fashioned (on purpose). You can use your Akbil electronic transit pass on all of them.

ZEYTINBURNU-KABATAS (-BESIKTAS) TRAM
The tram you'll use the most is the Zeytinburnu-Kabatas (-Besiktas) tram (map). This route goes from the district of Zeytinburnu on the shore of the Sea of Marmara through Sultanahmet, across the Golden Horn and along the southwestern Bosphorus shore, connecting the major tourist areas with three ferry docks, the European railway station, and the Funicular to Taksim Square. Use this tram and the Metro to travel between Atatürk Airport and Sultanahmet Square (click here for details) (Map)

NOSTALGIC ISTIKLAL CADDESI TRAM
A restored 19th-century tram trundles along Istiklal Caddesi connecting Taksim Square with Galatasaray and Tünel Square. It's as much an amusement as it is transportation. More...
