Istanbul's Erboy
Hotel is
located in the up-and-coming hotel
district of Sirkeci which
is close to the highly efficient Zeytinburnu-Kabatas
tram—the Gülhane tram
stop is only a few steps away (map).
Gülhane Park is just around the corner,
and Old
Istanbul, home to Topkapi
Palace, the
Blue
Mosque and Aya
Sofya, is just
a short uphill walk (or one tram stop)
away.
A downhill stroll quickly brings
you to Eminönü, Sirkeci
Station, the Egyptian
(Spice) Bazaar, Galata
Bridge,
Golden
Horn, and the ferries to
the
Bosphorus,
Haydarpasa
Station, Üsküdar, and Kadiköy.

The ground-floor Pasazade
Restaurant has
been decorated to look like a Turkish
mahalle (neighbourhood)
of little wooden Ottoman houses.
Not surprisingly, it’s
Ottoman cuisine that
features most prominently on the
menu. The fixed
menus are a great way to sample
a selection of dishes you might not
have thought of otherwise: çiplak
börek ("naked" savory
pastry), for example, or ekmek
kadayifi (crumpets
in a thick syrup with clotted cream).
In high summer the Istanbul
Terrace Restaurant opens
on the fifth floor. Its terrace offers
a panoramic
view out towards Topkapi
Palace, the great dome of Ayasofya,
and the Bosphorus.
The downstairs Blues Bar features
a Happy Hour from 16:00 (4 pm) to 18:00
(6 pm) daily.
A Guest Relations Manager is
almost always present in the public
areas to answer questions and help
you to make any travel arrangements
you may need.
This is a great hotel for people on
a tighter budget who still want to
be close to all the sights. All of
the hotels in the Sirkeci
Group (see
below) have excellent restaurants serving
high-quality food at moderate prices.
The Hotel Erboy is
also convenient to a cluster of good,
cheap lokantas (simple
restaurants) frequented by the Turks
who work around Eminönü in
the lively district called Hocapasa.
