Around the Bay of Marmaris
on the southwest side is Içmeler (EECH-meh-LEHR, map),
a seaside vacation "suburb" of Marmaris.
Shuttle boats cruise across the bay
regularly between Marmaris and Içmeler,
and minibuses make the 5-km (3-mile)
trip frequently, but holiday-makers
in Içmeler
might just as well stay put: the beach
is good, the views fine, the noise
and traffic levelsmuch lower in Içmeler than
in Marmaris.
Içmeler is a fine base
for excursions to the less-developed
towns of Bozburun and Datça out
on the peninsulas that jut westward
into the Mediterranean.
Marmaris is the major transport point
on the bay, so go there to catch an
intercity bus, or the airport
bus to
Dalaman Airport.
