The Hair Transplant Process
After a thorough consultation and examination, the doctors will then begin the hair transplant process which is as follows:
Graft Extraction: The follicles are extracted from the donor site (back of the head), which has been injected with a local anesthesia. This procedure is generally painless and can take up to 2 hours depending on the amount of follicles that need to be extracted.
Drawing the First Hairline: The new hairline is drawn based on several factors including age and facial muscles to produce the most natural look possible.
Opening the Channels: This next stage begins with another injection of local anesthesia and involves the microscopic channels being opened in the bald areas. This process can take anywhere from 40-90 minutes, and is completely painless. During this time the patient can relax, listen to music, read a book, or watch a movie to pass the time.
Planting the Grafts: This is the last step of the process and involves the FUE technique where the follicles that were extracted in the first step are implanted into the microscopic channels. This can take anywhere from 2.5-3 hours depending on the area of baldness and the former hair density. After the grafts are implanted, every follicle is looked over thoroughly, and then the scalp is washed and bandaged.
