Re: Istanbul taxi fares up by 15%

Up but still a bargain compared to taxi prices anywhere in North American and Western Europe :)

Re: Trekking with Children in Turkey

I don't believe that any of your four options are viable as either the weather is too hot/humid (especially for children) i.e. Lycian Way and St. Paul's Trail or area too lacking in infrastructure i.e. much of the northern part of St. Paul's Trail, Kaçkars and Taurus (and likely more elevation chang...

Re: Phrygia

Glad I'm not the only one who has followed brown signs to be uncertain if I found what they're about! I truly believe that they should erect some "You are here" signs as well!

Do try to make it to Aizanoi someday. It is spectacular.

Re: Phrygia

Thanks David! You gave me great ideas for a return visit to the area! Odd that we had the same experience at Çakmak Mable Hotel--fine except for a loud wedding party. It's difficult for noise to disturb me but something about the design of that hotel actually seems to amplify noises from atrium-like...

My First Winter (January) Visit to Turkey

We enjoyed a brief 10 days in Turkey as part of a longer holiday to visit friends around the New Year holiday. First we spent three days in Bodrum which we have visited during the late summer and autumn for quite a few years. Many hotels and restaurants were closed but there were a fair number of Tu...

Re: Tours from Cesme

Unless you opt for a private tour (very expensive for a single or small group) it does not really matter which firm you use to book a commercial tour in Southwestern Turkey. Why? There are only two or three (no I don't know their names) large firms offering these tours--the innumerable places where ...

Re: First Trip to Turkey January

The latest I've stayed in Turkey is mid-November so much of this comes from what I read and hear from Turkish friends. January in Istanbul is often described as "miserable". Little chance of sun with a nearly unvarying temperature both day and night (think near freezing). Slushy snow, wind and cold ...

Re: Guided tours in Cappadocia?

There are many tour agencies in the Cappadocia region and the standard tours are quite similar in itinerary and price. If you are wanting to book tours ahead via the internet just be positive that you are at the site of an agency that actually conducts tours--there are innumerable third party agenci...

Re: Help with 1st trip Itinerary

In all honesty, unless you add more overall time, you will spend a big chunk of those two days just getting to and from Kaş. Two weeks is a an extremely reasonable amount of time for the standard tourist triangle of Istanbul, Cappadocia and Ephesus. It is neither slow nor fast and there is zero prob...

Re: I have food allergies

You might be able to find alternate "milks". MSG is commonly used in their soups unless you find a really good place that makes their stock/broth from scratch instead of using or adding bullion. (Turkish bullion is excellent BTW but it is rather high in MSG.) Bread is, of course, everywhere and if y...
