Spice Market on Sunday

Merhaba ya'll. I know the Spice Market is now open on Sundays. But, what about all the other shops around it? I think the shops in the surrounding area are far more interesting than the tourist drivel that has taken over the interior. Are they open too, or just the main building?

Thanks!

1.5 Days in Cappadocia

I know this is a common question, but let ask for your suggestions once again. While I have been to Turkey several times, I have never been to Cappadocia. I plan to remedy that this fall when I bring a group of about 30 people on a tour. We will only have one and one half days to tour the area. Too ...

Re: Turkey- more European or Middle Eastern?

It's also fair to say that there are elements of Middle Eastern culture that have deeply been effected by the rule of the Ottoman Empire. When someone from the west travels to Turkey and finds some of the same elements in Turkey they see in the Arab Middle East, it's easy to assume that these elemen...

Turkish Holidays in October 2010

Hi folks. As I said in another post, I'm planning a group tour for October 2010 to Turkey and I have to start getting things in order. I want to be sure I'm avoiding any major holidays that might disrupt the trip. Here is what I know: To start, Ramazan is in Aug-Sept in 2010. Kurban Bayrami is in No...

Days Sites are Closed in Istanbul

Hi folks. I'm planning a group tour for October 2010 to Turkey and I have to start getting things in order. I like to give people about 12 month notice. I'll have a few questions to post, but this one involves what days things are closed in Istanbul. I don't want to schedule a visit for a day when a...

Re: Miletus and Ephesus in One Day?

Thanks. This day will be a part of a group tour I'm planning, so we'll have our own bus. I think we'd want to do Miletus first, so we're closer to the Izmir airport as the day closes. It looks to me like we can do this without being too rushed at Ephesus.

Miletus and Ephesus in One Day?

OK, do you think this is do-able. I'm not sure about the drive time from Kusadasi to Miletus, then from Miletus to Ephesus. I hoping we can do Miletus in the morning and made it to Ephesus about Noon. Do lunch, than 2 1/2 hours at Ephesus; one hour at the museum, than 45 minutes at St John's. Dinner...

Tarsus Waterfall - Tarsus Şelalesi

I know this is a odd question, but just outside Tarsus is a beautiful waterfall. I believe in Turkish it's called "Tarsus Şelalesi" (which I gather is simply 'Tausus waterfall'). One source I read said these fall were created about a century ago as a part of flood abatement. I can find no other refe...
