Re: New hotel in Gölhisar, for visiting Kibyra

We stayed at the Beyhan in October2014. Not an experience to be repeated unless it has had a refit and new management.

Exploring from Ankara

We are starting out in Ankara this October and going to such places as Konya (Catalhoyuk) and Amasya and Erzurum by train. Has anyone stayed in Cumre to visit Catalhoyuk?

Any tips or further suggestions welcome.

Re: Phaselis under threat

We stayed for several days in a lovely little pansiyon in Mesudiye on the Datca peninsular in February. Lots of lovely litte bays and no high rise except in Datca. We had a new walking book about the Carian Way with us which we found very well researched.

Afrodysias - Karacasu

I want to visit Afrodysias for a couple of nights in October. Has anyone stayed there recently or in Karacasu? I have found on the internet an expensive hotel but would like a cheaper one. We were in Karacasu a few years ago and chanced upon a fantastic market which included someone repairing donkey...

Re: Overnight stop in Beysehir

We stayed overnight in Beysehir a couple of years ago in a hotel that was about to close so I cant recommend it. While there we had a lovely boat trip to an island on the lake. The next morning we tried to visit the old painted mosque but it was shut for cleaning. Beside it were some other lovely ol...

Phaselis under threat

I have just read in Cornucopia magazine blog that permission has been given for a huge hotel to be built within the lovely site of ancient Phaselis. I am appalled and want to add my name to the online protest but the web site is only in Turkish! How shortsighted.

Datça, bosburun and Turunç

I am planning to spend a week in this area at the beginning of March with a hire car. Has anyone any cheap and cheerful pansiyon or hotel recommendations? Will many places be shut at this time of year? Which is the least touristy peninsula and anything else we should be thinking about please.

Re: Tulips in April

Two years ago the meadows around Nemrut Dag were full of wild tulips at the beginning of May. Last year at the same time they were under six foot of snow! We have often seen wild tulips when hiking in Turkey in the Spring.

Re: Izmir, Sanliurfa, gaziantep, Izmir, Bergama, Assos, Izmi

We did take your back road and it was lovely. Thanks for the tip. Our cars from Cizgi in the past have always been fairly dilapidated so this new one was quite a shock. One of the reasons we like Cizgi, apart from the price, is that it is a cash transaction so no possibility of aggravation with cred...
