Railway tickets discount for senior foreigners

Post by anatoly2002 » Mon Aug 21, 2017 7:16 pm

I plan to travel by YHT Ankara-Istanbul and back and going to take tickets at https://ebilet.tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr. I'm over 65 years old and that site gives me the opportunity to purchase tickets with a 50% discount.
I am not a Turkish citizen. Unfortunately, I can not find any confirmation that this discount also applies to foreigners (however, I also did not find any exception to the rules for foreigners). Therefore, I would like to receive from the official person confirmation of my rights in Turkish to show it to ticket inspectors in case of problems. Could any kind person provide a relevant TCDD e-mail address, to which I can send my request.
Thank you.

I checked this TCDD website page (in Turkish):

Postal mail and telephone contact information is shown on the website under "İletişim," but no email address.

However, on this page:

https://miys.tcdd.gov.tr/mis-1.0/pages/ ... TelReq.jsf

..they write that if you put your telephone number into the first field, and the confirmation word (the CAPTCHA) into the second field, you will be provided with an access code to their Customer Relations system. But most of these pages seem to be in Turkish only, with no translations into other languages.

On this page:

http://www.tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr/yolcu ... dirimler/6

It stipulates that passengers over 60 years of age are entitled to a 20% discount, and passengers over 65 years of age are entitled to a 50% discount on high-speed (YHT) and conventional main-line (Anahat) trains:

YHT ve ANAHAT TRENLERİNDE YAPILAN İNDİRİMLER;

f) 60 yaş ve üzerindeki yolcular% 20,

i) 65 Yaş ve üzerindeki yolcular %50,

Perhaps you could print this page to show to any train officials that may doubt the validity of your ticket.

At the bottom of the page it states that passengers must carry and present "official identity documentation" "acceptable to TCDD," but it does not say what sorts of documentation are acceptable.

A note from my experience: A year or two ago, I bought a ticket at the train station in Selçuk (Ephesus). I did not request the 65+ discount, but the ticket-seller gave it to me automatically (I'm 72—I guess I look as though I must be older than 65). This does not assure that other ticket-sellers will do that, of course.

Thank you for fast reply.

Unfortunately accepts only turkish phone number.

Not an option - I'll have to buy tickets online in advance due to busy direction.

It may be possible to have a travel agency buy the tickets for you, and email them to you. I suggest that you contact my friends at Efendi Travel in Istanbul to see if they can help:

Buying tickets at https://ebilet.tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr is easy, with or without discount The problem can arise when the tickets will be checked. At that moment I need a confirmation from officials from TCDD in turkish that the discount is valid for foreigners.
Actually I googled and tried a few TCDD e-mail addresses, no luck. $40 is not a life question but it became a sort of challenge for me now. To be honest, now I think that my only and last hope - if any kind person with local phone can get login/pass for me or even address my question to TCDD.
Thank you.
