Is aug summer in Turkey too hot and humid?

Post by andrewhmk » Fri Jun 20, 2008 11:28 pm

Was thinking of going turkey from mid aug till end aug. according to this weather website (http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/weat ... its=metric), Istanbul seems ok. ave max of 27C with humidity of 80+% in aug. However, TTP says that it can go really hot till 40C in aug.

What do you think about mid aug to end aug in Turkey? Is it bearable? Got some different views when I posted in http://www.qatarliving.com/answers/trav ... -and-humid

Am thinking of going istanbul, central turkey (ankara) and aegean region as well.

tx for any answer in advance.

Hi Andrew,
official weather forecast are measured in the shade, last year we had a very hot summer and we had days of 55˙C, but I measured in the sun. Hottest is second half of June, July and August. Towards the end of August of course it gets better. Especially the evenings cool down again.
Have a look here for the average conditions:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/city ... t=TT004370\
and
http://www.meteor.gov.tr/2006/tahmin/ta ... m=isTANBUL
http://www.meteor.gov.tr/2006/tahmin/ta ... x?m=ankara
the latter two I find very accurate, scroll down to see the average conditions,
Ortalama Sıcaklık = average
Ortalama En Yüksek Sıcaklık (°C) = hottest
Ortalama En Düşük Sıcaklık (°C) = coolest
Ortalama Güneşlenme Süresi (saat) = hours with sun
Ortalama Yağışlı Gün Sayısı = days with rain
Good luck!

I guess you are right.

I'm also planning to visit Turkey and once, I was searching about Turkey on the internet and found that september is the best time to go in Turkey.

This year is a very good year, July was perfect, never too hot. Temperatures around 35˙C are wonderful. No heat waves so far. It depends on what is your preference, for swimming in the sea September and October are perfect. The seawater in the Mediterranean near Fethiye/Antalya is now 28˙C.
For more walking/active holidays I recommend May, the wild flowers are stunning (Turkey has more different species of wild flowers then all countries of Europe together), it is very green.
Good luck!

Depends what you're comparing it to really. I quite like early August in Turkey. Ankara is bloody hot at the moment though - not something I'd go for!
