Flying Israel to Turkey... should I be concerned?

Post by ViolinAddict » Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:33 am

Greetings all!

I am going to be departing on a Birthright Trip to Israel next week. I have extended my trip so that I may work at a camp in Turkey. I made all of my plans well before any of the tensions between Turkey and Israel intensified at the end of May. I am becoming concerned that perhaps my plans should be adjusted because of this. I am just wanting some other points of view on traveling in this situation... from other parts of the world. It is so difficult to get any accurate information here in the USA.

I will be picked up at the Istanbul airport by a representative from the camp I am volunteering at. So at no point will I be traveling alone, but I wanted to know your opinion on being a Jewish traveler (from the USA, flying from Israel) in Turkey at this time.

Thank you SO SO much!

I wouldn't be concerned as long as you are no arriving by boat through Gaza.

Avoid wearing your Yamulke and Star of David and I doubt that anyone will give you a second glance.

No one will have no reason to know I am Jewish (I don't wear any religious garb, since I am mixed race I don't particularly look Jewish and don't have a Jewish last name...). My concern is with getting off a plane from Tel Aviv... and going to the airport to board a plane to Tel Aviv. I am just worried about being considered a security risk or a threat being American and flying these routes. I don't know if it is completely unjustified to have these concerns... but I also don't want to be stupid and get myself into a bad situation. Safety first I suppose.

You will have no problems as a lot of Americans pass through Turkey on their way to Israel.

"Avoid wearing your Yamulke and Star of David and I doubt that anyone will give you a second glance." says our friend KayaKoyuOldBoy joking.
You can wear your Yamulke and Star of David proudly in Turkey. We are friends of jews but we are againts the policy of Israili Government because of their inhostile behaviour to palastiner. Turks have been the only friends and protectors of Jews during the long history. The civil relations still goes on Turkish Airlines hav a flight to israil.
PS: we love olso US americans but we are againts to their policy in Iraq. and Cyprus. Have a nice time in Turkey. may you come smiling and leave smiling.
Don't die before visiting Turkey
