Traveling on Victory Day, August 30th

Post by beekay » Thu Jan 17, 2013 8:21 am

Hi All,

I am thinking about a trip to Turkey in late August. I wanted to make sure that I arrived in Istanbul after Ramadan had ended, when I was checking the dates of the holiday I noticed that August 30th is Victory Day. ? If it is anything like our Fourth of July (Independence Day) in the States then I could imagine it being a huge hassle for travelers. Although, it could also be an opportunity to get a unique look into Turkish culture.

Has anyone had experience traveling on Victory Day? Will the museums and other attractions be open? Does the public transportation have a separate, holiday schedule

Thanks in advance!

Hi Beekay,
Victory Day is nothing like a carnaval, just a symbolic, official celebration day.
It's gonna be a quiet warm holiday, don't worry.
Come whoever you are...
just come as you are
