March 30, 2014 elections

Post by Stevecatts » Tue Feb 11, 2014 9:30 pm

We will be in Istanbul March 28 to April 2. As I understand it, elections are on Sunday the 30th. I know we can't predict if there will be turmoil in the city, but what will be the status of sites that day? I had tentatively planned to tour Topkapi, Sulayman the Magnificent Mosque and possibly the archeology museum and mosaic museum. Will these sites be open to visitors? If that is a problem, what would be good options for our time that day?

Lastly, if there is trouble in the streets, is it likely that will only be in the evening and localized around Taksim? We will be staying near Galata because of a general concern I had about Taksim.

Please give me any thoughts you might have.

Everything you mentioned will be open. Yes, demonstrations both planned and unplanned tend to begin at Taksim Square.
