selcuk vs kusadasi

Post by travelbug » Sat Apr 19, 2008 2:43 am

Please tell me the pros and cons of staying in either Selcuk or Kusadasi. My husband wants to stay in a modern hotel in Kusadasi, but I may prefer the less westernized accommodation. Thanks for your input - June

I personally think Selcuk is a better place to stay as opposed to Kusadasi as it is to me more turkish and not a typical resort like Kusadasi..Depending on your arrival if you stay in Kusadasi you might also get swarms of people getting ot the cruise ships helding for Ephesus..

Selcuk is closer to Ephesus for one thing..the Epes museum is there too..I just perfer more places that are not catering to the masses and the package tour groups..just my opinion..

PS..we stayed in Selcul last year in the newer section of the Akay hotel and loved it..and I can highly recommend it..

I believe others that enjoy the REAL Turkey will also agree with me..

Thanks for your opinion Carrie. Anyone else out there with an opinion?

Selcuk 2
Kusadasi 0
But that's just my humble opinion, I wouldn't like to cause a divorce!

Admittedly, we didn't see Kusasi, but we LOVED Selcuk. It was one of the highlights of our trip -- very lovely, super people and laid back atmosphere. It was perfect for us.

It depends on what you want. Kusadasi has a wealth of resort-type hotels and flocks of European tour groups off cruise ships. Not my cuppa, but I know plenty of people who would prefer a more familiar environment while they vacation. Selcuk is charming with several incredibly welcoming pensions., but you won't find four star international-style accommodations there. It's got a much more Turkish feel, but it's still easily do-able for non-Turkish speakers. (If you're familiar with US tourist guidebooks: A Rick Steves reader would prefer Selcuk, a Fodors fan would rather be in Kusadasi.)

I had to look him up, he uses Kuşadası for his Best of Turkey in 13 Days tour!
I vote Selçuk.

Thank you all. Now all I have to do is convince my husband! He thinks that it would be nice to have the beach to come back to after a day of touring. I told him we could take the car to the beach if that's what he wants! Don't worry Margaret - no divorces!!! - June

That is a good one David..loved the idea for the maps...that way for sure I would pick the beach ( Pamuk beach ) just 8km outside of Selcuk over Kusadasi away from the masses..

We drove through Kusadasi last year..and took about 10 minutes to take pictures etc..as seen here at this photo;

I do not even remember or recall seeing a beach..but there has to be one I would guess...the only place we saw or drove through was done at the water front across from the bird island ( hence Kuş adasi ) ..
