Tyana Guesthouse

Post by Maxicat » Fri Apr 04, 2008 2:30 am

We will be first time visitors to Turkey in Sept 2008 . Has anyone stayed at the Tyana Guesthouse in Kemerhisar/Niğde ? Is the countryside around Nigde similar to Cappadocia?

That's a nice looking out-of-the-way place. Sorry, I haven't been there myself, but the nearby neolithic Pınarbaşı Höyük is on my list of places to visit.
And Tyana was probably the ancient Hittite Tuwanuwa.

In fact, I'm thinking about staying here myself. Half board at 20 euros sounds good.
I could probably do a day trip south for the Hittite sites of Ivriz and Bulgarmaden, and maybe the Çiftehan hot springs and Ulukışla.
I've had no luck finding an English translation of Han Duvarları by Faruk Nafiz Çamlibel.

Oh damm!! Was thinking that our 2009 trip would be north east, particularly Trabzon and along the Black Sea. Now I'm afraid David you've opened up another possibility!! Still, lets get our 08 trip out of the way first - 3 weeks today - hooray.

Because of the mineral baths, I see there are quite a few hotels in Çiftehan.
