Finding a Hotel in Kars

Post by susanross » Thu May 26, 2011 12:27 am

We are trying to find a hotel in Kars. The only one that seems to be linked to sites like Expedia is the Kars Otel, which is full that night. I'm getting a bit concerned, as we'll be getting off the Istanbul train at 10.30pm, we have no Turkish, and I really want to know we've have a room. Are we going to be OK if we take a taxi to a hotel without booking in advance (especially given how late it will be) and what hotels would anyone recommend?

Two years ago we stayed at the Gungoren which was cavernous and tatty, but friendly. There was an extended power cut, it was snowing and a stranded Azerbajani folk group played mournful music by candle light in the reception area. Unforgettable! Our friend stayed at the Temel which was nicer and cheaper at the time.
