Phrygian valley - Gazligol - Soydan Termal Otel

We wanted to visit this ancient Phrygian area between Afyon, Kutahya and Eskisehir which we had heard described as a mini Cappadocia little visited by tourists - true! We knew we would need a car and did not want to drive in and out of large cities each day. We asked many times about small hotels and pensions in the countryside and found nothing so ended up staying in Gazligol, a thermal resort about 25 km from Afyon in the Soydan Termal Hotel for which we paid 50TL pp for half board (45TL when we stayed more than 3 nights). The resort is an excrescence on the landscape - multistorey hotels and new villa developments used by Turks but no foreigners. It worked well enough as a base for visiting the surrounding area. The hotel rooms were very spacious and we had the use of the thermal pools and hamam in the basement. Thermal water came out of both hot and cold taps. I ran a bath one morning and had to wait an hour before I could get into it! Meals were good but with no choice.
