Excellent New Botique Hotel in Mardin

Post by SwampeastMike » Tue Sep 20, 2011 9:34 pm

If you have any plans to visit the wonderful city of Mardin, get to Kasr'ı Abbas Botique Hotel!

Only open three months it currently has little business--a situation that I expect will change shortly. The price is also almost unbelievably low--especially for Mardin where I expected to pay three times the price for a nice place.

I cannot describe well how to get to the hotel. The one-way street through the heart of the old city is the closest driving road. You walk down through a vegetable bazar and through some pedestrian only alleyways to find the hotel perched half-way down the cliff in a mainly residential area. The view is SUPERB!!!!!!!! A Dutch couple we met while touring recommended the hotel and said that you "Bang at the heavy metal door and hope someone answers." Fortunately we telephoned ahead and even our Turkish guide had difficulty finding the hotel and we had to be escorted in by the owner.

The truly antique (in the sense of this part of the world) building is beautiful. The stones and carvings alone could serve as fine decoration for the very large rooms.

I do not find a website for the hotel, but I will ask tomorrow.

The telephone number (within Turkey) is: 0482 213 22 22

Do you have a GPS position for it?

I doubt that GPS coordinates would do you any good...

But I do have more information as well as a correction to the hotel name (edited in original comment):

Kasr'ı Abbas Botique Hotel

Manager: Yusuf Yucesoy

website: www.kasriabbas.com

You are quite welcome.

My only negative criticisms are that water pressure in the showers was quite low, the breakfast was rather skimpy and some ventilation problems.

Wind was utterly lacking during our visit and even with six windows in our corner room open the air was somewhat stuffy and they had no fans. Our guide said that his bathroom needed ventilation as it would heat his room.

I expect that these minor problems will be addressed shortly.

For $220 for two rooms for two nights in a truly lovely hotel with a beautiful view, I can easily overlook minor inconvenience.
