Does Turkey have a insured postal service

Post by gumusluk » Sat Nov 11, 2006 2:39 pm

I am considering living in Turkey again from next summer onwards. I used to work in Bodrum about 3 years ago and I know that you could never rely on the postal service, I heard that around 70% of all post goes missing!

Does anyone know if there is a insured postal service where I can garantee that when I send something from Turkey it will be received in england?

An international courier might be your best bet, but quite expensive.

We've lived in Turkey for over 2 years and have sent and received about 4,000 packages through the Turkish post office's PTT International Signed For Service. To date, only one package has gone missing and we suspect that that happened in the USA.

Delivery times on average to and from the USA and UK are about 14 days.
Australia, New Zealand and China are about 7 - 10 days.

Thanks very much for your help, just one more question though, is it more expensive than the UK system or about the same?

In relative terms, it's about the same. i.e if you compare Turkish wages to UK.

If you compare UK prices to Turkish, the PTT is quite a bit cheaper.

An Air Mail letter to the UK is 1 YTL

A small Jiffy envelope is between 4 and 6 YTL depending on weight.
