Can a foreign businessman get a PO Box in Turkey?

Post by Paz » Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:12 pm

Hi,

I have a friend who does a lot of business in Turkey but he doesn't have a permanent address there.

Does anyone know if he can open a PO Box there?

Cheers,
Paz.

According to the article 4 of the Regulations of Turkish Postal Service person or every firm can hire a POBox.
- Real persons must show an residantal adress notice taken from the distict manager the Muhtar.
- The firms must show a registration document taken from chamber of commerce.

Your friend who has not a residant adress in Turkey can ask his business partners to open a POBox for the firm indicating his name to use the box.

There is no other way. sorry.

Hi Paz

Whilst Tosun has accurately quoted the official regulations I think most post offices are keen to rent their boxes and not too worried about proof of residence. I have a PO (in Turkish it is 'Posta Kutusu' so the address is PK with a number) box here in Fethiye and when I first rented it in spring 2004 I didn't have an address - hence need for box like your friend. I just showed my passport and gave my address as the village where we were then planning to build a house. I presume your friend will be wanting a box in Istanbul or another big city. He should go to nearest Post Office on his next visit and try to rent one. They are very cheap and I think he'll be successful.

Hi Ptemiz,

Thanks for the alternative point of view. Yes my friend works out of Ankara, so I'll tell him to turn up early with a passport and a big smile... :D
