supermarkets in Galata, Istanbul

Post by iaia » Thu Sep 16, 2010 12:57 pm

Hello everyone,

I have moved to Istanbul two weeks ago and I am looking for a good supermarket in Galata, where I live. There is a Dia, just near the Galata Tower, but it is not really well-stocked. Do you know if any of the big chains (Migros, Makro etc.) have a store in Galata? Or can you recommend a good supermarket nearby? (I don't have a car).

Thank you very much!

Galata is a historic area. I know of no large supermarkets in or near it.

But it is a great location to buy a musical instrument!

That is true: the musical instrument shops on Galipdede Caddesi between Tünel and Galata Tower.

I'd guess most people living in Galata shop at the small bakkals (groceries). I can't even think of where the nearest big supermarket might be—Old Istanbul really has no room for one of them, or for all the cars that would come to it.
