Turkish words posted instead of recording of how to say it

Post by Johnmango » Wed May 10, 2006 4:38 pm

I think it would be really helpful to actually have the Turkish word posted, in addition to the pronumciation.

It's alright to have just the pronumciation of the short words, but when there is a sentence, then it is really hard for non-speakers to follow what is being said, without having the actual Turkish words to follow.

The new podcast - highly recommended!!

Post by anna & James » Wed May 24, 2006 10:16 pm

I just listened to the podcast & it is excellent!

It's really great to get to hear even the basic words spoken clearly as often it is hard to pick up the correct pronounciation whilst on holiday.

It brings to life the basics everybody gets from the phrase books.

I'd be interested to learn a range of different 'getting by' phrases especially for those times when you find you can't revert to English when you've had enough.

I'm ashamed to say we went 11 hours without eating on a road trip becuase I couldn't think how to ask 'do you have any food?' (we were stopping at the roadside places but it was out of season & they weren't really open) In the end I admitted defeat & we ate at a petrol station cafe!

I don't know about everybody else but I am pretty able to remember individual words but phrase / sentence construction would be really useful(especially sounding polite, as I often worry the phrases I'm using may sound like demands due to missing some crucial words!) For example is using istiyorum correct when ordering drinks / food? 'iki cay istiyorum' (please excuse the spelling!)

Anyway thanks, keep up the great work & keep us updated on when there's more to hear!

I'll be back to listen & practice again soon. :)

Regards
Anna
