Phaselis under threat

Post by sally » Wed Mar 05, 2014 6:34 pm

I have just read in Cornucopia magazine blog that permission has been given for a huge hotel to be built within the lovely site of ancient Phaselis. I am appalled and want to add my name to the online protest but the web site is only in Turkish! How shortsighted.

It's disconcerting, this headlong rush for tourism cash. The situation on the Datça peninsula doesn't sound good, as reported by Hürriyet.

We stayed for several days in a lovely little pansiyon in Mesudiye on the Datca peninsular in February. Lots of lovely litte bays and no high rise except in Datca. We had a new walking book about the Carian Way with us which we found very well researched.

We stayed at the Phaselis Resort last year and my only regret was not getting to visit the ancient site. The building on ancient sites or some how making them a part of a touristy money venture seems to be a pattern. It's all about money. There are some pristine beaches under threat as well. Once it is gone it is gone. Let's hope more intelligent minds prevail.
