Look for the Light
In June 2003 I was staying at the Madison, a nice 4-star hotel in the Talimhane hotel district near Taksim Squarein Beyoğlu, Istanbul, when I saw through this window a bright ghost of the Madison itself reflected on the building opposite.
Modern glass-covered buildings may be architecturally oversimplified, but they also create quite marvelous patterns of light.
Perhaps we should not look at them as great architecture in themselves, but rather as light-pattern generators.
Next time you’re near a big glass building, look around for the light.
