Beyoglu’s Gothic Synagogue
This elegant 19th-century building resembles a church because of its neo-Gothic style, but it was built as–and always has been–a synagogue.
Used by Istanbul‘s Italian Jewish community during the 19th century, it has retained the name, and is still in use. If you’d like to visit, you must obtain permission in advance from Turkey’s Chief Rabbinate, not far away near Tünel Square in Beyoglu.
