Note the niches in the walls, carved into the soft volcanic stone whenever the need arose for a place to put something.
Among the delights of the troglodyte (cave-dwelling) lifestyle are intense quiet (sound doesn’t penetrate the thick rock, and the beautiful tawny colorof the volcanic stone itself, brought to life particularly well by incandescent lighting.
