Dramatic Winter Light
I took this photo of the Maiden’s Tower (Kız Kulesi) from the ferryboat steaming from Haydarpaşa Station to Karaköy (Galata) on the Golden Horn.
It was afternoon, and the light from the winter sun low in the western sky flooded beneath the heavy grey cloud cover and across the cityscape.
You already know the story of the Maiden’s Tower. Look closely and you can see visitors near the boats, and on the viewing platform atop the tower itself.
The urban landscape behind the tower is that of Üsküdar, with the Şemsi Paşa Mosque dominating this neighborhood from its hilltop perch.
