I've been a travel writer for nearly a half-century, and I've never seen anything even remotely like Ürgüp's Sacred House.
Imagine, if you will, a grand luxury mansion conceived by a Hollywood fantasy cinema designer-historian-artist. Constructed without regard to cost, Sacred House is simply amazing.
The astonishing conception and creation of Mr Turan Gülcüoğlu, it starts from classical European architecture and décor, but takes its elements into another realm entirely.
Sumptuous, unfettered, original, outlandish, crazy—it is all of these things.
To stay here is not to have lodging, but to have an unforgettable experience in visual wealth overload.
If you're looking for practical accommodations at a sensible price, stay far, far away from Sacred House. But if you're eager for a sensory experience that César Ritz or Conrad Hilton could never even have conceived, let alone achieved, consider a stay at Sacred House.
Be warned, you may find it difficult to escape its enchantment and go out into the "normal" world of Cappadocia.
Sacred House is very small, very special, and sought out by romantics from around the world, so reserve your room well in advance if possible. (Read this about staying in cave rooms.)
