Istanbul Coffee Shops & Cafes – 2021

Last Updated on August 7, 2022

Istanbul is home to hundreds of incredible coffee shops and cafes that are well worth exploring. They range from big bustling cafes with vast menus, to quaint and peaceful little cafes on side streets. Below are some of the cafes that we visited and have reviewed in Istanbul.

Story: 8/10

Story is a beautifully modern yet cozy coffee shop with locations in Kadikoy and Moda. They offer a range of drinks made with excellent espresso, as well as delicious homemade pastries such as cinnamon rolls and cheesecakes. Their staff are very friendly, speak English, and make incredible coffee. The seating space is good for individuals or groups of 2-4, but a larger group may feel a bit crowded.

Brekkie: 9/10

Brekkie is quite a popular breakfast spot in Kadikoy with some of the most amazing house made croissants. Be prepared to wait in line for a bit - but it is well worth the wait!  Although they were quite busy when we were there, their service was very well streamlined and we didn’t have to wait for long. Their specialty is croissant breakfast sandwiches with a wide range of toppings (including vegetarian) as well as other breakfast items such as smoothie bowls and granola. They also have coffee and tea to go along with their amazing croissants and breakfast sandwiches.

Poika: 8/10

Poika is a very cute and cozy coffee shop that offers good coffee and amazing smoothie bowls made with real fruit and fresh ingredients. The ambiance is very peaceful, and a great spot to chat with a friend or get some work done. It is very close to the main Sultan Ahmet square, so it is an excellent location if you are touring the Aya Sofya and want to pop in for a bite or a coffee.

700 Gram: 8/10

700 Grams is a very spacious cafe and bakery which offers coffee as well as delicious breakfast and lunch options. The interior is classy while still being practical and comfortable and the space is suitable for large groups as well. The staff are friendly and professional and the coffee is very good. Its a lovely space to spend an afternoon with friends, and grab a bite to eat as well.

Alpha Coffee Co: 6/10

Alpha is a small street front cafe in the middle of the Kadikoy district. Location wise, it's great to be able to pop in and grab a coffee to go, or sit for a while. From our experience, the coffee was quite milky and the staff seemed inattentive, but perhaps another kind of coffee would have tasted better. The coffee shop space itself is modern and minimalistic, with room for maybe a group of 2 or 3 to sit and drink coffee.
