Auto racing is a fairly new sport in Turkey, but motorsport got a big boost with the designation of Istanbul as the site of the WRC Formula 1 Grand Prix that took place on August 21, 2005.
Howver, due to a lack of government financial support following the 2011 Grand Prix. Istanbul is no longer on the Grand Prix circuit.
