A splendid historic Pera (Beyoğlu) building in a superb location has been entirely renovated, equipped with a glass elevator/lift, and converted to spacious, modern apartments/flats for short-term stays (several days to several months).
Clean, bright, modern styling and furnishings make these one- to three-bedroom apartments a joy to live in. Full kitchens, a concierge, and housekeeping every other day make them easy to use.
But it’s the location that convinced me.
On historic Meşrutiyet Caddesi near Tünel Square (map), a few minutes’ stroll from the Ottoman-era US Embassy, the British and Swedish embassies (now Consulates-General), mere steps from the Şişhane Metro entrance, the Tünel, and İstiklal Caddesi, in the heart of the hip Beyoğlurenaissance neighborhood— this is a great place to be in Istanbul, whether you’ve come to see the sights of Old Istanbul or to enjoy the art and pleasures of Beyoğlu.
Grocery store, wine shop, bank branches and dozens upon dozens of cafés, restaurants and bars—they’re all within a few steps of the fine old building.
The management of Galata Flats has made arrangements with local restaurants for special prices and considerations for its visitors, so when you don’t want to bother with cooking, it’s easy to dine out at moderate prices.
