Around the Bay of Marmaris on the southwest side is İçmeler (EECH-meh-LEHR, map), a seaside vacation “suburb” of Marmaris.
Shuttle boats cruise across the bay regularly between Marmaris and İçmeler, and minibuses make the 5-km (3-mile) trip frequently, but holiday-makers in İçmeler might just as well stay put: the beach is good, the views fine, the noise and traffic levels much lower in İçmelerthan in Marmaris, and İçmeler has over 60 of its own hotels.
İçmeler is a fine base for excursions to the less-developed towns of Bozburun and Datça out on the peninsulas that jut westward into the Mediterranean.
Marmaris is the major transport point on the bay, so go there to catch an intercity bus, or the airport bus toDalaman Airport.
