The Harbiye district of Istanbul, on Cumhuriyet Caddesi to the north of Taksim Square and Beyoğlu (map), is an upscale district named for the imperial Ottoman military college that is now Turkey's outstanding Military Museum.
For decades Harbiye was the center of foreign tourism in Istanbul as travelers came to stay at the city's first—and for awhile only—5-star hotel, the Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus.
Many airlines, prominent travel agencies and tour companies still have their offices here, and some traditional dinner-and-a-show nightclubs still cater to foreign visitors.
The posh boutique, shopping, dining and residential district of Nişantaşı is just east of Harbiye.
Nearest Metro stops are Taksim and Osmanbey. You can walk from Harbiye to Taksim Square in 10 to 15 minutes.
