Alsancak Gar (Alsancak Station), built in the 19th century for trains going to the wealthy suburbs of Bornova, Buca, etc., is now İzmir‘s main terminus for intercity trains such as the Konya Mavi Tren, the nightly sleeper train between İzmir and Konya; the Karesi Ekspresi and İzmir Mavi Tren from Ankara via Eskişehir, Kütahya, Balıkesir and Manisa; the 6 Eylül Ekspresi and 17 Eylül Ekspresi between İzmir and Bandırma (for the fast ferryboat to Istanbul); and the Ege Ekspresi (İzmir-Manisa-Balıkesir) and Uşak Ekspresi (İzmir-Manisa-Uşak).
Alsancak station has ticket windows, an information window (Danışma), café and toilets.
On the northeast side of Alsancak Gar is the Alsancak İZBAN suburban train station. An easy 1-minute’s walk takes you between the stations.
İZBAN suburban trains can take you to Basmane Gar, İzmir’s regional train station and an interchange station with the İzmir Metro. İZBAN trains continue southward all the way to Adnan Menderes Airport.
Leave the İZBAN train at Basmane Gar and change to a Metro train to reach Üçyol for buses to Alaçatı and Çeşme, on the peninsula west of İzmir.
