A beautiful Ottoman-style inn with a gourmet restaurant on a quiet street only two minutes' stroll from Kalekapısı, the very center of historic Antalya, near the top sights, tram lines, bazaar, boutiques, and harbor... Is this possible?
Location, Location, Location...
It is! It's the Tuvana Hotel, in a prime location close to all the sights in Kaleiçi (Old Antalya), but also just steps from Kalekapısı, the very center of Antalya sightseeing, transportation, and shopping.
It's even on its own quiet side street with no vehicle traffic, very little pedestrian traffic, but plenty of flowers. This makes it especially suitable for families and travelers with mobility challenges.
Restored Ottoman Houses
The six restored Ottoman houses of the inn have 46 comfortable, atmospheric rooms ranging in comfort and price from Standard and Standard Plus to Superior and Deluxe, including eight suites, two family suites and two "Pasha" rooms that are larger, with many windows, and open onto the garden, terrace restaurant, and pretty swimming pool surrounded by palm and fruit trees and luxuriant bougainvillea. Unlike many hotel swimming pools in Kaleiçi, the Tuvana's receives full sun all day.
In season, feel free to pick fresh oranges, tangerines, bananas, plums, medlars, and pomegranates right from the trees!
Each of the houses has a different character and ambiance, with its own antique decor, sitting rooms, and atmosphere. All guest rooms have flat-screen satellite TV with Turkish, European and American channels, direct-dial phones, minibars, and modern private bathrooms with hair dryers.
The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and filled with elegant Turkish decor. The beds feature plush comforters to ensure a well-rested night. You can expect a fully-stocked minibar, a multitude of toiletries, and a large closet to hang your clothes for your stay.
Enjoy a book or movie (with romantic movies for newlyweds!) from the small lending library or log on to the free Wifi available everywhere in the hotel.
The hotel's Turkish restaurant, Kaftani, has two dining rooms (with a fireplace for winter evenings), and a beautiful garden beneath the fruit trees for dining when the weather is fine.
What You Get for What You Pay
Rates at the Tuvana include a full Turkish buffet breakfast and, if you wish, may include a generous table d'hote dinner. And dinner may be a special event such as the weekly Turkish barbecue: a seemingly endless succession of appetizers, salads, and grilled meats brought right to your table, sizzling from the grill until you can eat no more. But then, dessert arrives! Oh, and coffee. Oh, and then a liqueur.... (Delicious alternatives to meat are available for vegetarians.)
Rest easy: your comfy bed is nearby...
The clientele is usually a congenial mix of Britons, Europeans, Australians and North Americans. Special rates are available for diplomats, academics, journalists, and artists with credentials who reserve directly with the hotel.
There are also seasonal discounts. Ask!
Experienced Family Management
Mr Aziz Tankut, the hotel's owner, and Ms Nermin Sümer, the General Manager, are usually much in evidence around the hotel along with Mr Özgür Tankut, assisting guests, sharing a story, a joke, a cup of coffee, or information and advice on how best to enjoy Antalya and places nearby.
The Tuvana Hotel has its own car parking lot behind the hotel (a rare thing in congested Kaleiçi). Finding it can be tricky, but no worries: ask in advance for the special map to the hotel. When you arrive, the hotel will send a staff member to assist, or even pilot your car if necessary. Contact the hotel for details.
