Fethiye, Turkey Transport

Last Updated on July 12, 2025

Fethiye is one of the main coastal towns that tourists prefer to visit in Turkey. While Marmaris, Datça, and Bodrum are known for their five-star resorts and relaxing days on the beach, Fethiye is mainly known as the adventure hub of the region. This beautiful coastal town has a diverse range of experiences, from historical sites and blue flag beaches to natural wonders and exciting activities. However, fully exploring Fethiye requires traveling between various locations and a good knowledge of the viable transportation options in the region.

Renting a car is the best way to travel around, as it is in most coastal towns in the Mediterranean Region, but it is still possible to get along with using public transportation and taxis as a substitute. Let’s learn more about the transportation options in Fethiye and some helpful tips.

Transportation in Fethiye

As a general rule, the coastal towns in Turkey generally have decent infrastructure, making car rentals a convenient way to explore the region. You can find more details about renting a car in Turkey on our website.

However, if you prefer not to drive, the primary mode of transportation in Fethiye for you will be minibuses (known locally as dolmuş) and taxis.

How to Use Minibuses in Fethiye

Taking a minibus will be a lot more budget-friendly than other options, but it might be confusing to constantly figure out which minibus route to take. Otherwise, taking a minibus is pretty straightforward. After waiting at a bus stop (you'll usually see them marked with a D sign), you can simply wave to signal the approaching minibus, and the driver will stop to take you.

Payment is also convenient; you can use any credit card with contactless payment. Keep in mind that cash is not accepted on the minibuses in Fethiye.

Generally, the most useful minibus routes have a stop near Erasta shopping center. For example, if you want to go to the Ölüdeniz district, where Fethiye’s main beach and coastal activities lie, you will most probably use the Fethiye-Ölüdeniz minibus. The minibus stop near the Erasta shopping center is an easy one to remember and use.

You can also use the official Muttaş website from the Muğla municipality to see a list of all the minibuses in the region. There you’ll find information about the minibuses’ routes, timetables, stops across Fethiye, and even the real-time location of the minibuses. Keep in mind, you might need to use the translation tool in your browser, as there is currently no English version of the website.

How to Use Taxis in Fethiye

If you take a taxi in Turkey, make sure to ask the driver to use the taximeter and try not to bargain on a price beforehand, as you will probably end up at a disadvantage.

It is important to note that while you can use your credit to pay for your fare in bigger cities such as Istanbul and Antalya, this is not the case in Fethiye. You can not pay with your credit card in Fethiye and most other smaller towns and cities. You will need to have cash. So, we recommend carrying a sufficient amount of Turkish Lira with you at all times to pay for transportation and other expenses.

Note: Not having a card payment system means most taxi service apps in Turkey might not have service in Fethiye. If you are in a big city, always use a taxi service app to get better prices.

Traveling to Antalya from Fethiye

Traveling to Antalya is one of the most popular options for tourists visiting Fethiye. While you can use intercity buses to travel, if you prefer to rent a car and head to Antalya, you have two main options.

1. Scenic Option to Travel to Antalya from Fethiye

From Fethiye, the coastal highway heads southeast along the coast to Kalkan, Kaş, Demre, Olimpos, and Antalya (map). This is the longer but scenic way to travel between Fethiye and Antalya.

2. Short Option to Travel to Antalya from Fethiye

The inland highway climbs into the mountains past Tlos, over Karabel Pass (1300 meters, 4265 feet), across broad Yaylas (high mountain fields and pastures), through the town of Korkuteli, then down to sea level at Antalya.

The mountain scenery is fine for much of the ride, and travel time on this route is hours less than the coastal highway.
