Akyarlar, south of Turgutreis on the western shore of the Bodrum peninsula in Aegean Turkey, is several resorts in one.
Two large hotels, the Kefaluka and Xanadu Island, draw your eye right away, but in fact Akyarlar is more like a collection of small coves and bays backed by hills dotted with small pensions and hotels. Choose one from these:
The beaches are varied. To the east is Karaincir Beach, framed by hills, with darkish sand, some pebbles, shade trees just inland, and a few small snack stands and restaurants.
The beach just to the west is actually prittier. Farther to the west and north, Meteor Beach has a small amount of sand, but most swimming is done from concrete platforms along the shore.
Although maps show a road continuing along the shore between Akyarlar and Bodrum, it is rough and slow in places. The best way to get to Akyarlar is by the main road from Bodrum via Ortakent to Turgutreis, then south along the shore from Turgutreis.
Minibuses run frequently between Akyarlar and Turgutreis.
